Answer the Call: Fostering Children Ages 6-13

"Whoever welcomes one such child in my name receives me" Matthew 18:5
Every child is infinitely and equally important in God’s eyes, as they are in ours. However, children from ages 0 to 5 are historically placed in foster care homes at a much higher rate than children from ages 6 to 13.

In 2017, only 15% of children in Oklahoma County foster care were ages 7 - 9, and an even lower 11% were age 10 or older.

In 2018 (as of June 1st), there are a total of 513 children in Oklahoma County foster care. 347 are in the 0 - 5 age group, while only 133 are ages 6 - 12.

This age group is in need of just as much love as the next, and with the help of your open hearts, we can work to fill that need and make sure the older kids are just as supported.

When children in the 6 - 12 age group are more readily taken into foster homes, it not only provides them with stability at a crucial developmental time, but it also increases the chances that they will be placed with their younger siblings if they have them. This helps make our goal of keeping sibling groups together even more attainable.

If you feel you are being called to open up your home to children in need of love and a place to live, please listen a little closer to that call. Maybe supporting an older child is a part of your journey and mission.
