Edmond Community Fulfills Backpacks for Foster Children
August 8th, 2021 Edmond – Local volunteers and UMC Connect Church fulfilled all 43 school aged foster children’s backpacks from The Anna’s House Foundation.
Foster families lovingly open their homes to foster children in need, and as a supporting agency, Anna’s House walks beside them in every season – including back to school. UMC Connect Church and volunteers of Anna’s House purchased and coordinated the facilitation for 43 backpacks, totaling an estimated $4,300 worth of donations. “Thank you so much for providing school supplies and backpacks for the upcoming school year. It is such a blessing”, the Adams family exclaimed after receiving supplies for their 2 foster daughters.
Many foster children feel anxious about the start of the school year. Katherine Craig, executive director of AHF, says, “when children are removed from their homes and placed into foster care, they are leaving not only their parents, but often their friends and school district. Watching their faces light up upon receiving their backpacks and go through their supplies provides a glimmer of hope as they prepare to enter the new school year”.
We are very thankful for our large volunteer base to provide this for our foster families! If you are interested in fostering our staff would love to chat with you. Give our offices a call at 405-509-2055!
